The GOSPEL In A GLASS (A Parable)

‘Can You Stop The RAIN?’

Rain. Imagine it’s raining all over the world. The rain gives life to all things. It is refreshing! It washes clean. It satisfies thirst.

Imagine God is the rain.

One day, God made two glasses and they were filled with His rain. God told them never to pour their water into the roots of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; for if they did, their glasses would break, sending their water into the ground. However, along came Satan who told them, “Surely, if you pour your water into the roots of the forbidden tree, your glasses will never break and, in fact, you will then become part of the rain itself!” They believed Satan and did as he said, except their glasses were now empty and he rushed to place a cover over them so they would not be able to be filled with God’s rain ever again.

Soon the world was filled with covered glasses. They were crying out to God because they were empty and thirsty. God told them a Savior would one day come to make the way to remove their covers so they could once again be filled with His rain. In the meantime, those who had faith in the coming Savior were to break a glass* each year to pass their sins over to the next until He comes.

The day finally came for the Savior to be born. Because of what happened to the first glasses, God decided His glass would not be born of two covered glasses, else He would be covered as well. His glass would be special, for He would be born of the rain itself and a covered glass, so He would not have a cover! He was born the only glass in the world without one. The rain continued to fall and He was filled to overflow at all times.

Satan, once again, tried to tempt the Savior to obey him so as to cover His glass. But, because this glass was born of God, He did not believe Satan’s lies and remained uncovered, full of life-giving rain!

As the Savior ventured out to the glasses of the world, He would say things like “The rain is greater than I, and the rain itself is within Me.” He would share His water with those who were empty and thirsty and told them He would soon remove their covers, if they just believe in Him. People everywhere flocked to the Savior to be relieved of their thirst and be filled with hope. He continually shared His water with everyone He met, yet because His glass didn’t have a cover, it was never empty!

His message spurred some of the covered glasses to destroy Him. He was becoming more powerful than they and attracted far too much attention. Who was He to claim that He could take away their covers? Why hand’t He done so? Surely, He was a liar! The day finally came when they succeeded in breaking His glass! What they didn’t know is that He represented all of the glasses that had been broken* before Him. They didn’t know His glass was the last to be broken as a sacrifice for sin. What made His glass different from all the others broken before*? His glass was born of the rain and did not have a cover! While the covered glasses snidely swept His broken glass into a tomb, they didn’t know His water had returned to the rain! They were relieved to think this liar had been destroyed. Now, all the glasses in the world were still covered, just as before; the commotion was gone!

However, three days later, the tomb was empty! There were no pieces of glass to be found! The Savior appeared to all who believed in Him. His message was clear; His water had returned to the rain, which restored His glass and given Him life! He once again said that all who believe in Him and His message would soon have their covers removed and hope in the same glory! He promised to return one day to collect all the water, but in the meantime the rain would be with us and in us, and we were to spread the good news until He comes again!  Then, He returned to the rain and disappeared from sight.

40 days later, a great wind blew through the land. Thousands of glasses who believed lost their covers and were filled with the rain! They shared their water with all who were empty and thirsty, just as the Savior did; and like Him, their glasses never ran dry! Glasses all over the world believed and lost their covers and were filled with God’s rain! They rejoiced in the hope of returning to the rain one day, too, just as the Savior promised!

Surely, as soon as their covers were removed, Satan tried to get them to pour out their water, but they knew what happened to the first glasses and refused to believe him! They never wanted to to be empty and thirsty again!

The covered glasses now had a bigger problem. They sought to break as many of the uncovered glasses as they could. They still didn’t know that the rain would give life to them! Some devised a plan to deceive those who were empty and thirsty so they would simply keep their covers. They decided to collect bits of water from the uncovered glasses, filling themselves up. Surely, their outer glasses were clean because of the rain, just like the uncovered ones. But over time their water became stagnant because they were covered! Likewise, anyone who drank from their water became sick. In fact, the polluted water began to destroy the very glasses that contained it, as well as those who drank of it! Their glasses burst and the smelly water drained into the sewers of the land.

Still today, multitudes of glasses remain covered, empty and thirsty. Many are satisfied drinking water from those glasses that are filled. Some drink from the uncovered glasses; some drink from the covered ones. The difference is, one is drinking of life-giving rain; the other is drinking of polluted water unto death. Either way, each glass must have its cover removed so the water doesn’t stagnate! The Truth is, the Savior will come again soon to separate the uncovered glasses from the covered. He will pour the water of each glass into one of two pools: the pool of life-giving rain or the pool of polluted water, which will be drained into the ground.

Do you believe? Are you empty and thirsty? Is the water in you growing stagnant? Do you want to be filled with the Living Water, the rain that will continually refresh you and give you life? Are you willing to share with others, letting them taste of the goodness of God? If so, I invite you to read my hubs, Come to JESUS: Salvation and Water to Wine: More Than A Miracle! These will explain what it means to be “born again”. As an infant in Christ, know that He becomes your Father and will teach you and guide you into maturity through His Word.

I pray all my hubs will help you along the way. This is one way I share the Living Water of God with others. If you’re only able to taste right now, continue to read.
