Great words from Piper, as usual. This is a great challenge to not sugarcoat or lighten the gospel message. When face to face with people, this becomes a temptation for me…but I need to love the Lord and people more than that.
Thanks for posting this!
How do you fight that which was already defeated at the cross, and how do you sugarcoat the sweetest Truth of all time and eternity?
I'm curious as to what part of the video you are referring to along with could you provide a scripture reference so I can better understand what you are saying and where you are coming from?
It was actually the title that caught my attention. My immediate thought was, "We fight sin by fighting from victory, not for victory." In other words, sin has no power over us (Rom. 8:16), and we are a new creation with a new nature (2 Cor. 5:17,21). These truths are immensely important weapons against satan. Piper, while thought provoking, didn't really take this approach.
My second question was really a response to Seth's response. I understand where he was coming from, and I too have often lacked the courage to share the Message boldly, but my immediate thought to the phrase "sugarcoat the Gospel" was " the Gospel truly is the sweetest message in all the universe, and how can one possibly make it any sweeter?"
I was trying to be pithy by trying to elicit these thoughts through questions. Hopefully you find these thoughts encouraging, I do. The Gospel is beautiful!
