Glenn Beck A Mormon – Walking Away From One of the Kings of Talk Radio

This is a difficult post to share.  My heart goes out to someone that I believe is doing a lot of good and fighting hard for a lot of people.  But at the same time I continue to become more and more uncomfortable when I am asked to ‘pray together with’ and ‘put aside spiritual matters’ on his program.  It continues to make me uncomfortable.  So I want to just briefly share and focus on the difference between Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the Jesus found in the belief system of the Mormon Church. I will be the first to admit that I am neither perfect and always wanting to grow in my walk as a Christian.  This post is only meant to show the difference between two different understandings of who is Jesus Christ and as a result when someone suggests (perhaps not knowing full well at the time what they are saying) to pray with them and to stop focusing on the small religious issues that divide us that it does bother me a great deal.

I do want to say this upfront.  I do not want Daily Jesus to be a political website.  In fact I will not share my political views on this site.  I want the focus to be on Jesus Christ.  I think my political views are insignificant compared to the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I want to state that and make that clear.  As I discuss Glenn Beck I am not attacking him.  I just want to share a clear distinction between the Jesus revealed in Scripture and the Jesus of the Mormon church.  What turned me away from Glenn Beck was about far greater issues than anything political but regarding the very nature of God, Jesus, and salvation.

I finally had to pull the plug on Glenn Beck, both television and radio.  It had nothing to do with political beliefs and had everything to do with I was tired of listening to constant belittling of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A person can belittle or perhaps blaspheme God by insulting him, refusing him due praise, or by raising yourself to the level of God or by lowering God down to your level.  In the Old Testament this is punishable by death.  While I am not suggesting killing someone for doing it I need to take note at how serious this sin is against God.  In fact it was this official reason that was charged against Jesus for His crucifixion.

I become deeply saddened with a growing number of  Christians who do not know the deep truths of what they believe.  Daily Jesus exists to equip and encourage the body of Christ online.  It is my prayer this post does that.

I had seen the red flags for a few years.  Let me make my first point now:  Glenn Beck is a Mormon and not a Christian.  Mormonism is a religion dating back to the 1830′s.  It is a different and false gospel.  Mormons do not pray to the same Jesus found in the Bible and thus do not pray to the Christian Jesus.

Let’s look at just a few doctrines of the Mormon Church and thus why I finally pulled the plug on Glenn Beck.

Mormon’s Teaching of God:

Mormon’s teach that God the father has flesh and bones and that Jesus (the first offspring of the flesh and bones god the father) is the physical offspring.  They believe that both God the father and that Jesus are created beings.  They view the Trinity as three created and separate beings.  Each three of these individuals were created and are distinct beings.  If that isn’t blasphemy enough for you and in direct contradiction and opposition to the teaching of the Bible let me share a bit more about their doctrine of God.

Mormon’s teach that while God is physical he is also one god among many gods.  What they call God, the father, used to be a human on another planet who after he died came to our planet to populate the earth with a physical woman who is somewhat of a goddess herself.  They repopulate the earth by having spirit babies who then inhabit human babies (meaning they believe we pre-existed).  The first offspring of these two individuals on earth was Jesus and the second offspring was Satan.  Yes, you guessed it according to Mormonism Jesus and Satan are spirit-baby brothers.  Isn’t that lovely.  All of the other offspring is you and I.

Are you beginning to see all of this blasphemy?  Denying God is and always has been eternal and always been God.  The idea that there are many Gods and not one God.  Also a female God is involved.  The idea that Jesus is created and not eternal but the brother of Satan and also the spiritual brother of all of us.  This is blasphemy and denying both the God of the Bible and the Jesus of the Bible.  When a Mormon is praying Lord…understand who and what they believe Jesus to be…their equal brother and not eternal, unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, and not God.

It is not the same Jesus and the Jesus of Mormonism does not exist.

What about Soteriology?

What do Mormons believe about Salvation?  Mormons believe that Jesus work on the cross is not sufficient enough for the forgiveness of sins.  Mormons clearly teach that salvation is a cooperative effort with the Mormon Church.  In order to be saved we must obey and follow the teachings of the Mormon church; this is how forgiveness is granted.  This is clearly works salvation and not the teaching of the Bible that we are saved by grace through faith alone.  One more point:  when Mormons speak of salvation it usually implies not the cross but of what they believe universal resurrection.  Everyone will be raised up at the last day to enter some degree of heaven based on works.  When they say salvation they mean the end resurrection and not the cross of Jesus Christ.  It is important to understand clearly Mormon teachings.

What About The Bible?

The 8th article of faith of the Mormon Church states, “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.”  This simply means that when the Bible contradicts the Book of Mormon, the Bible isn’t trustworthy.  Mormons claim that the Bible can be trusted but when it comes into contradiction with the Book of Mormon or other Mormon lit. it is to be disregarded.  In fact, they do not let the Bible stand on its own.  It has to be interpreted with their own presuppositions.  They claim the Bible cannot be trusted.  But every Christian seeks to know what the Bible says and originally meant while Mormons do the exact opposite.  In fact they have no problem ‘changing the Book of Mormon’ with over 4,000 changes to the text since the 1830′s.

I could go further but I just wanted to focus on just a few key areas that show the large difference between Mormons aand Christians.

Are Mormons Christian?  It is not Christian because it denies that there is only one God, denies the true Gospel, adds works to salvation, denies that Jesus is the uncreated creator, distorts the biblical teaching of the atonement, and undermines the authority and reliability of the Bible.  There are plenty of more reasons but those are the easy to see big 3!

Being a  Christian does not mean belonging to a church, doing all sorts of good things, or just believing in God. Being a Christian means that you have trusted in the true God for salvation, in the True Jesus — not the brother of the devil, not the god of Mormonism, not the gospel of Mormonism.  Mormonism is false and cannot save anyone.

I pulled the plug on Glenn Beck because he kept asking me to pray with Him ‘to the Lord’ and he and I do not pray to the same God nor follow the same Jesus.  Glenn Beck wants people of all faith to put aside ‘small’ differences and join together on the ‘bigger issues’.  I confess there is nothing bigger than the ‘issues’ of God, Jesus, and Salvation.

I will not pray with him but I will continue to pray for him.
