Daily Scripture Readings and Meditations–Romans 8:32

Welcome to “Daily Scripture Readings and Meditations” for Romans 8:32.

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Security.  We all want it and are willing to invest our resources to get it.  What a blessing then to know we can have security for our very souls from the One who made us and knows all that will threaten us!

We have here a Master who has invested much to secure His children.  He put His precious own in harms way to prevent the church from eternal harm.  The Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14).  There is nothing that induces more relief, joy, and thankfulness in the Christian heart than this news.

What sort of confidence should we have then with this knowledge?  If God has undertaken to secure us at unprecedented cost, it follows that, as repeatedly promised in the Scriptures, He will bless us richly (alongside Christ) for all eternity.  The picture here is one of the Father dipping His Son into the pot of death, and then in lifting Him out drawing also the elect from this cauldron of hopelessness.  We are “stuck” to the Son with a bond of love that cannot be torn asunder (Vv. 34-39).  Why should we have concern for our eternal future when there has been such amazing grace given by the One mighty to save?  If you are in Christ, rest assured.

The error, however, that many Christians stumble into is applying the promise at hand to mere material gain.  God indeed gives us good things in this life, but we must remember that the Christian life will be one of suffering that leads to a forever life of bliss.  For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison (2 Cor. 4:17).  We suffer just as Christ suffered and are one day glorified as He is glorified.  Such glory should be the sweet longing of our hearts.

  1. I appreciate the phrase 'one of suffering that leads to a forever life of bliss'. I believe you are right on. The love of God displayed for us through the sacrifice of Christ is truly an unprecedented cost as you put it. Well done.
